san francisco MARATHON!

we did it! 2 weekends ago i ran my 3rd marathon,
and chase ran his first! i always hoped i'd marry
someone who would do crazy & adventurous things
with me. chase not only travels the world with me,
explores new places, tries new foods, he has now
even run a marathon with me! i picked a winner.
we had a great time despite lots of pain and
wondering why we were doing it while we were
running :) i am mostly so happy it's over, the
soreness is gone, and we have a great memory of
running this classic SF marathon while living here!
it might not be our last marathon, but it will be
for a while! you can see some thoughts i had while
running this marathon here to get a better idea of
what it was like ... now the only marathon i'm
doing for a long time is a movie marathon! :)
^^ laying out my race gear the night before...
had to be ready for the 4:30 AM wake up call!
{ i am so glad that's over }
^^ pre-race carbo loading. don't mind if i do!
^^ race expo the day before, always a fun event
that gets me in the mindset of the race we're doing
^^ really fun expo down by the water at fort mason
^^ so fun to train and sign up with our bestie
kendall! she makes everything more fun.
behind the smiles we are thinking...
"WHAT did we get ourselves into?!!"
THEN...RACE DAY:
^^early morning meeting at the google office with
the entire running team! and, looking at our route..
blurry google running team photo ^^^
^^ this was when we got excited. it's hard to
ignore that pre-race buzz, all the people,
and that start line by the bay bridge!
5 AM faces!
^^ start line -- butterflies!
^^ blurry good luck kisses
and, we're off!
one of the best parts was miles 6-10, running across
the golden gate bridge! we had gotten separated and
found each other on the bridge, so fun, loved it.
^^ we made a new friend on the course
when chase spotted her south africa gear,
where my parents live! we had to snap a
picture for my parents. it's always really
fun to meet people on the course of a marathon,
they take your mind off the run and make it fun!
^^ somehow chase has the energy to do
clever things in the race photos, meanwhile
i was just barely surviving :)
^^ i love this classic photo of
chase finishing his first marathon
YAY, finisher!
^^ getting his medal, well-deserved
fun to do together!
and, our post-marathon massages at our
apartment were specially themed for
the marathon with extra goodies included..
as if we could love unwind me more!

and, that's that! it's pretty crazy that we
ran 26.2 miles, but i love that we did it
together and it was an adventure as always!

travel tips: staying healthy while traveling

i've been away from the bay for the past 2 weeks, and still have a week before returning.
in this time i've gone all through beautiful colorado, then back to salt lake city to spend
time with family before my parents move away for 3 years! it has been the BEST but it
has reminded me of how important it is to stay healthy and feeling good while away from
home. i'll be gone almost 3 weeks, and when you're off routine it's not always easy to keep
the same habits, eat well, exercise, sleep enough, because you're traveling and seeing new
things! in light of this, here are some tips for staying healthy while traveling...so that you
can enjoy your trip and come home feeling great too! here are my tips for.......................

1. go out in the morning before your day starts. schedules can be full on a trip, and things can change during the day...so by going for a run / walk in the morning, you'll make sure to fit in some exercise, wake yourself up, and get energy for the rest of the day.

2. eat a healthy breakfast! we love eating treats all day and trying things on trips, but we try to have a healthy breakfast that will fuel us for the day. i love to find a juice bar, fruit from a local market, or even just some oatmeal to start the day.

3. use exercise as a form of sightseeing. eating is one of the best parts of travel, but if you are active on your trips then the food is just your fuel as you bike, hike, walk, and run around new places! we love using runs to sightsee in the mornings -- it makes the run fun because you are taking in new sights, and you get a feel for the new place while working out!

4. pack smart -- bring comfortable clothes that you can be active in and walk around in.

5. look up good running / bike routes online or ask a local running store -- they might even have free running groups you can join and feel like a local!

6. bring healthy snacks. i always get hungry when i'm out and about exploring a new place, so i like to have a bag of almonds or some fruit with me so that i can keep going and feel good.

7. sleep is not my biggest priority when traveling because i figure i am only there once and can sleep on the way home, but it is important to prioritize it and make sure you're getting enough rest so that you don't get sick -- that will defeat the entire purpose. give your body some type of structure and try to adjust to jet lag / different time zones as best as you can.

8. hand sanitizer is one of my favorite things...i may be a little too obsessed! but, it is so nice to have a mini bottle with you at all times, no matter where you are. when traveling you are always touring things, touching railings, holding onto subway poles, etc. germs are everywhere! i love to have hand sanitizer so that when we get a treat or have a meal or take a break i can keep my hands clean.

9. be smart about the place you're traveling: make sure you're aware of whether or not the water is drinkable, if you need immunization, and which foods to avoid. if you have a weak stomach, make sure to take things slow and eat simple things at first so that you're not sick the first day in.

10. drink WATER! hyrdating and travel go hand in hand. i have learned this so many times the hard way. flying dehydrates us, walking dehydrates us, we forget to drink water, and we need it. i feel one million times better when i carry a bottle of water around and drink up so that i feel good and can enjoy my trip!
what are your healthy travel tips?
is anyone a fan of things like airborne or other supplements to prevent sickness?

i can track down a juice bar anywhere :)

living in california has spoiled
me when it comes to having
healthy food all around. juice
bars, salad shops, acai bowls,
you can find it all over the place!
i obviously love all kinds of food
and eating, but after a week
of going out to restaurants
every night + lots of treats on
the road, i was craving some
pressed juice! luckily i tracked
a place down in steamboat
springs...and it was one of the
best i have been to! JOOSE
stands for june's original
organic steamboat essentials.
june is the cutest lady who
has always been into nutrition
and healthy eating, so when
it became a trend she was
already on track! she has
developed the BEST "superhero
smoothie" with 15 incredible
ingredients and no sugar.
i obviously had to try it, and
i could have it for dessert daily!
it's incredible. she knows her
stuff and has so much great
homemade food, amazing juices,
and more to offer. just while i
was in there, a customer came in
saying she had a stomach bug. june
knew just the thing to make for her!
you have to love a place like that.
it was so fun to meet june & britny,
and i'll be back whenever i'm in
steamboat! you should too!

^^ the BEST combinations of
salads made by june. i felt
so so so good after eating this!
^^ so many kinds of juice, and i loved this
cold shot + watermelon juice.
^^ look how homemade and natural it is!
vibration hydration was my choice and
i loved it. needed it after lots of hiking!
^^ my favorite part is that june realizes
that although healthy eating is the best,
we still need to leave room to indulge and
have treats-- so she has lots of natural treats
to choose from, like these sweet chocolate pecans.
^^ the crew! it would be such a fun place to work.
^^ ingredients of the "superhero smoothie"
it was AMAZING! you can also buy the mix
and make it yourself. incredible and unique!
i loved the space and loved getting
some healthiness in my body while traveling.
 thanks, june + britny!

earthbar comes to SF!

we love earthbar in LA,
so we are so excited that it
is now here in SF! we had to
stop by to meet the manager
up here and become friends :)
i even included it in part of our
anniversary scavenger hunt last
week because chase didn't know
they had opened a new location
up here in the bay! we love their
acai bowls because they are so
natural and really make you feel
good. the acai they use has no
sweeteners/sugar so it tastes
different, but in a good way. we
love the punch of flavor and how
good we feel compared to other
more sugary/syrupy versions!
yum yummm. we made a little
stop here this weekend before
i had to take off to the airport.
we love this place most for the acai bowls,
but the pressed juices and other health
foods are top notch as well. this fresh
watermelon juice was so summery.
 healthy cookies with 4 ingredients..
these are always the kind of things
i see on pinterest but don't have
the ingredients, so love that i can
pick them up here!
^^ juice shots are my GO-TO
whenever i start to feel a little
bit under the weather. they are
tough to get down but feel so good!
^^ the glorious acai bowl with
all the healthy toppings. love!
^^ our four juice choices. the gimme greens was
my favorite, but the cold kicker made my
sore throat and sniffles go away!
thanks, earthbar for coming up north
to san francisco, and for starting
my traveling weekend off right
with some healthy goodness!

project juice

it is a bright and hot and sunny week
here in the bay! may is definitely here.
to welcome it in, i got back into juice...
this time, with project juice. let me just
tell you, i did a "cleanse" right this time.
i love project juice because 1) the flavors
are some of the best i've had, and 2) they
are all about making cleanses work for
you. i did a 3-day a few months ago and it
did not go so well...haha. it mentally broke
me and i was miserable! this time around
i talked to brandon (see his site here) and
he told me to listen to my body and do
what works for me. i chose to do a one-day
cleanse -- their intermediate cleanse. i
LOVED it! here's why. i did ONE day which
is completely doable compared to three.
also, i supplemented with food. i was
working and wanted to go on a run the
day i was doing it, so brandon encouraged
me to supplement. i had some almonds in the
morning with my juices which helped
fill me up, an apple in the afternoon,
and a salad packed with veggies after
a long run in the heat. i may not have
done it the precise way to some, but it
worked for me. i enjoyed the cleanse
so much more and i really focused on
what i was putting into my body. i didn't
go crazy because i felt like i had freedom
to eat and add things in, and it made it
so i could go about my normal day but
have only great things in my body. i
truly had more energy, felt amazing,
and loved it. it's a reset for the body
and helped me kick a few of my bad
habits as of late. i'm also addicted to
the amazing flavors. i will be back all
the time. if you're in san francisco
or palo alto, visit project juice and
use this promo code::::WELLTRAVELED15

and if you just go for some juice,
here are my favorite flavors!

swizz beets:
probably my favorite. made up of
apple, carrot, cucumber, beet, ginger lemon.
perfect blend of sweet with a kick. plus, i love
the name. plus, i love beets lately. sue me.

the master:
this flavor is an example of why i love project juice...
this one is really a cleanser and has all the ingredients that are
tough to get down, but they make it taste good somehow! i love
the lemony zest with the kick of cayenne. this is a great one if you're
starting to get a cold, or just want a zinger of a restart without
wanting to spit it out while drinking. made of H2O, lemon,
lime, ginger, agave, and cayenne. i want one right now.

d-tox:
pineapple, apple, mint. yes PLEASE. that mint, perfect.

almond mylk:
purified water, raw almonds, dates, vanilla
bean, sea salt. this is the best healthy dessert possible.

^^ my salad to finish off the cleanse
^^ we even squeezed in some tennis on our favorite
rooftop court overlooking the entire city.
^^ i spy the golden gate bridge from our tennis court...!
^^ speaking of eating good things, i'm supporting
sevenly this week with their hunger campaign...i can't
imagine going hungry like so many people in the world
do. we are blessed to have access to so much food, and so
much healthy, fresh food. i love sevenly for encouraging
intentional generosity and love for others. so this week,

sevenly is partnering with feed my starving children.
EACH product you buy this week provides nutritious meals
to a starving child in liberia for an entire month! plus, you
get a cute shirt. click here to participate! such a great thing.

thank you project juice for helping
me start may off right! xo
