old delhi

we started off our india trip in old delhi, an ancient and
historic city filled with monuments and rickshaws and
fruit stands and spices and lots & lots of people.
it was exactly how we had pictured india.
the streets were so chaotic but amazing,
and there was so much to take in at once!
the beauty & the disparity hit you all at once,
and the sensory overload is hard to explain.
it was surreal to suddenly be across the
world in this crazy, bustling, different city.
i love the first day of a trip. i'm always running on
adrenaline and i think one of the best feelings in the
world is being in a place you've never been.
^^ right in old delhi is the jama masjid
india's largest mosque.
^^ the colors & structure are so pretty to take in...
if any part of your leg is visible, they drape you
in robes {like you can see on me and over chase's
shorts} then you take your shoes off and walk in!
i think it was a really good look for chase :)
^^ one thing to get used to in india = you have to take
your shoes off at every single mosque and lots of temples.
^^ love this archway shot looking out on the city
^^ we met the first of many darling children
and gave them some ghirardelli chocolates
to bring a taste of our home to india! :)
^^ loved all the fruit / nut / spice stands
and, time for a rickshaw ride through the tiniest, most
crowded/ dirty streets. it really gave us a feel for old delhi!
^^ made a stop at the best spice shop, the
secret behind all that great indian food!
^^ my face while we went through these narrow,
crowded streets with cables hanging above!
cute rickshaw rider ^^
^^ view of the mosque as we came back through old delhi
and, a mountain of monkeys we happened upon.
best thing ever, and first of many monkey gangs
we saw and stared at forever. the videos of them
eating bananas are the best, i'll share them soon! ^^

^^ can anyone handle this?
i'm still so amazed we didn't hit anything while he was
pedaling through the insane streets and holding a gopro. ^^

everyone clear the roads, chase is at the wheel
of the rickshaw! :) i love this guy and love that
he will pedal me around in a rickshaw in india.

new delhi coming at you next.

where is the most chaotic place you've been?

welcome to india!

|| india ||
tastes like: fresh naan • smells like: sweet
smoke & dust & curry • sounds like: car
horns & "namaste" • looks like: color and
culture • feels like: beautiful chaos.
we have loved this adventure and once-in-a-
lifetime trip. wow! i don't even know where
to begin. i can't wait to share highlights of
delhi, jaipur, and agra. i can't wait to edit
the video with chase full of so much beauty
and color and the feel of india. i'm thankful
that we can document travels in order to
always remember them and live them again
and again. i hope we can show the beauty
of this faraway place and do it justice.
today i'm just sharing a few iphone
snaps from our flight and first days.
i won't lie, i am pretty ready to head home
today. this was a nonstop, tiring, dizzying,
crazy adventure. our stomachs feel funny,
our sleep patterns are off, & our clothes and
hair still smell like curry, but it was all worth
the adventure. on one of the days we were
talking about if people could just instantly
travel places by snapping their fingers
right away. although that would be nice,
i told chase i like the effort and time you
have to endure to go to faraway places.
it is rough, but it makes the places that
much more beautiful when you realize
how far away you are. {i have to remember
this attitude during the actual 12 hour
flights when i am going crazy, but it's true!}
^^ a good breakfast before 24 hours of travel
^^ here's chase reaching the point of desperation at
hour 11 of one of the flights. he kills me. this is
a pattern of his, like this time last year :)
^^ our hoodiepillows actually saved our lives.
i am so obsessed with these things. the flights were
freezing like most flights are, and they were
overnight -- so having a warm comfy hood attached
to these inflatable neck pillows was the bomb.
everyone around us wanted one! there i am looking
fly/AKA knocked out after taking 1/4th of an ambien...
it was the first sleeping pill we've ever taken and we
both PASSED OUT. chase looks much cuter sleeping than i
do but i did need to share how much we loved these :)
^^ we had a layover in beijing and had to walk out on
the FREEZING, smoggy tarmac in the middle of the
night to get on our next plane. it was so weird to be back
in china when it was freezing since our trip there was
probably the hottest i've ever been. the smog was worse too.
we did, however, get to slow dance at 4 am in the beijing
airport because we could not sit down one more second
and there was no wifi or anything to distract us. it was
practically empty with pretty music playing so we
deliriously slow danced and it was kind of my favorite.
^^ we landed in the middle of the night in delhi,
greeted with leis and a sign for us! i don't know
how it was this crowded at 3 AM but it was.
there were also stray dogs running around in
the airport chasing each other, so that was a nice
little greeting when we walked outside. we were
also greeted by the insane haze/ smog!
got our passports stamped and got in a car to be
taken to our hotel. this is a blurry pic of the
freeway because we were in shock right away.
1) again -- how is there a traffic jam at 3 AM, and
2) notice no use of lanes. at all. chaos.
*not pictured: nine million horns honking nonstop,
cows on the side of the road, and my nervous laugh.
really really nice to get to a hotel after 24
hours of travel. we didn't get there until
almost dawn, but it was worth it to have
somewhere to relax/shower/sleep for a bit
before the first day. this was the surya hotel.
*weird fact- all of our hotels in india had
security machines you had to walk through
every time you entered the lobby. every. time.
^^ indian food breakfast, interesting! i thought they
were making crepes so i ordered one and found it
filled with potato something + sauce. still good!
^^ if we thought the streets were crazy at night,
we were in for a mini heart attack the first day.
our driver was amazing but it is truly insane.
i've never seen anything like it. you can see
this cute little guy hanging on the back of a
moped holding onto those shoe boxes for dear
life. // also it's hard to tell, but our van passed a
bus soooo close. i don't know how we didn't hit it.
our driver told us that to drive in india you need
2 things: a good horn and good luck :)
^^ first sights of the street = tuk-tuks.
^^ immediately fell in love with the crafts
and colors at all the markets as we walked the
streets of delhi. i did not fall in love with the
constant harrassment to buy touristy things though! :)
//also, they have so many flavors of tea. chocolate?
^^ colorful streets
laughed so hard when i saw chase's 3 recent searches
on the translation app of his phone he used in india.
he also had to try on a turban! he keeps me laughing.
^^ i may or may not have lived off naan {SO good}
and also their corn was for some reason amazing.
and all the candy i packed before leaving.
we LOVED all the darling kids in india and
made friends with them all. they loved to take
our picture, shake hands with us, and say
"hello nice to meet you! can i click a picture?"
could they BE any cuter? ^^
i really wasn't kidding about the naan.
SO good and helped us survive through
all the crazy meals during the trip ^^

these random photos off my iphone
give a little glimpse of our time in india.
more coming from new delhi tomorrow!

life lately: november

november was a blur. between a beach weekend with
friends, to siblings coming to town for a visit, to the ute
game at stanford, to leaving to india for 10 days, we
packed it in this month! i am currently typing this
from india in new delhi as we get ready to go to the
airport in a few hours -- it's one of the first times
we've had solid wifi and before i share loads from
this once in a lifetime trip, i wanted to share some
snippets of november between all the craziness.
i hope everyone had a great thanksgiving, and
sending love from india! craziest but best trip
that i can't wait to share more of! for now:
^^ this month we celebrated 3 years since getting engaged
proof that i'm a sucker for celebrating the little things:
i got chase this watch thinking i'd probably wait until
christmas, but we woke up that morning and i had to give
it to him. couldn't wait! i told him "time has flown" since
he asked me to marry him, so now he has a new watch to
keep track of it. :) he pulled off the perfect proposal that day,
so i think a watch was the least i could do for him to
celebrate the day he flew to san francisco to surprise me on
a sailboat under the golden gate bridge with sparkly ring.
^^ the weather in SF finally decided to cool down a bit in
november, so we've been having lots of honey-lemon teas
at night before bed. we use the BEST raw, creamy honey
from my parents and it's our nightly ritual. // also having
lots of berries since we are still in california and they
never seem to go out of season, another perk of CA!
^^ visited a new google office & loved this sign.
good seafood by the beach at splash cafe in SLO ^^
^^ we rekindled our love for nick's crispy tacos
this month, and now i'm worried i'll be back
every tuesday night. best EVER tacos.
^^ we loved seeing some of our best friends in the world
when di & ted came to visit, and finally meeting baby rocky!
yay for ute games and yay for seeing bffs. ^^
^^ we also got to see our cute sis-in-law rach who came
to the city for a girls trip but made time for us! love her!
^^ finally cooked for the first time in a while because i
was craving curry...funny timing right before india,
because now i don't think i'll be having it for a while - ha
(they make it a touch more spicy here ;)
^^ look what's up at fisherman's wharf ... !!!!
the union square tree is also up, with all the
red bows + wreaths in the windows of macy's
so i think it's time to admit christmas is coming!
^^ rainy hot chocolate days + gourmet
ice cream cookie sandwiches
make for one very happy girl.
 a bowling date...at work...on our lunch break...normal ^^
^^ ha, there is too much irony in that sign! //
also, my photos were used in an ad for porcupine grill ^^
-- one of my favorite restaurants! i'm no photographer,
so i was excited about this! i'll take a bow now :)
breakfast with a view, and the best g-chats from
my sweet husband. he's a good one! ^^
 ^^ a special night with my brother + sis-in-law
in town at mozzeria, SF's deaf restaurant
loved it and can't wait to go back!
^^ am i the only one who stares at these and plans
my next trip in my head when i read all the places?

and finally..since it's clear christmas is coming
{despite warm california and hot india...} i guess i
better get in the mode. this 2015 wall calendar made me
excited for the new year and put me in the gift mode
...and christmas wish-list making mode (hint husband!)

on to december in a few days .. how is that possible!

talk to you on the other side of 24 hours of flying!
