labor day 2013: gold rush days

we thought long and hard about what to do for labor day this year. we had lots of options and ideas, but eventually decided to take our own advice about saving money when traveling and skip the pricey plane tickets over labor day. we have a trip to oregon coming up in 2 weeks, so we started looking for places nearby that we could roadtrip to over the weekend. we've already done a lot all around the bay, and we wanted something new.. so we found the perfect thing--- sutter creek and the old gold rush towns! we planned it out, hopped in the car, and had a memorable weekend going back in time to the days of the gold rush when california was booming! the gold rush days festival was happening this weekend, so it was the perfect time to go. we had a great time and actually learned a lot about CA history! here is a video, with pictures below it.
hope everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing labor day!
we're sure excited to welcome fall.

we stopped at the famous sutter creek ice cream emporium for lunch and a treat
haha no words for this one
we loved all the people dressed up in 1850's wear
strolling on the delta king ship
making friends with the old fashioned firemen
fun old fashioned shows
making some friends from 1850
touring the senate floor in the california capitol building
in the little old fashioned schoolhouse, working on his math ;)
for dinner we splurged at a yummy restaurant, loved the misters on the back patio
gold rush days, we loved you..
and we even got a golden sunset on the drive home.
happy labor day to all!
