magnolia bakery feature

you might have noticed that we've started to partner with some favorite restaurants
and hotels to feature on our blog. since we are all about eating well & traveling often,
we've had fun working with these places..and this way, when our readers visit
a city, they can come to this site to know the very best local, unique spots! we also
always add them to our city guides, which are slowly but surely being posted.
{see two recent san francisco features here and here.}
we set up features at some favorite new york spots before our trip ...
so in between posts of our adventures there, we will have some highlights
of fun NYC spots. we did some of the best places in the city--keep in mind, we
are so selective with these, and we will show only our very favorites so you
know you're getting a good genuine recommendation for when you go!
needless to say, we were thrilled when magnolia bakery wanted to sponsor us for a
feature because it has been one of our favorite places for a long time. the first time
i went to magnolia bakery on bleecker street i was 17 and i fell in love.
two words: banana pudding. i was visiting the city with my best friend,
and her sister who lived in new york took us here. we walked to the bleecker
street location, and there was a line wrapped around the block. we didn't
even mind the line because the smell coming from the bakery was so good!
we got banana pudding and cupcakes and i was an instant fan. the last day of
that trip, we made the cab driver stop on the way to the airport so we could
get one more carton of banana pudding!! we almost missed our flight. it's that good.
now it has expanded all over the city to 5 locations, and to a few other lucky places.
i have visited every single time i've been in new york. it's a must!
first of all, it is the most darling shop that you want to spend hours in.
second, the treats are to die for. each cupcake has the "magnolia signature swirl"
design with the icing, and it is even trademarked! each employee
has to go through 70 hours (!!!) of training just to perfect this!
i like a place that takes their baking techniques that seriously.

^^ with katie, the magnolia events manager who set this up with us.
magnolia is also a sign of someone who knows their way around new york city.
when i'm on the NYC subway or sidewalk and see someone with a magnolia bakery bag,
i know they are someone i'd be friends with. it's a signature new york city institution,
and we loved every second of this visit. katie had a little private room ready for us at
their upper west side location {69th and columbus} and we did a tasting on the
cutest cake stands. we talked forever about the bakery, and she answered all
of our questions. she could not have been sweeter! {no pun intended}. we loved
her so much and it shows how great the people behind magnolia bakery are.
red velvet is of course a favorite, as are the other everyday classics:
vanilla-vanilla, chocolate-chocolate, and a specialty of the month.
it's perfect that you can always get the classics, but there are some
variations too-- like pistachio, praline, and the hummingbird cupcake
{made up of banana, pineapple, and pecans}.
everything is made fresh every day, and they donate the extras at the end of the day.
what a great place! magnolia also does weddings, events, and big orders.
you can find them in NYC on bleecker street {original location}, bloomingdale's,
in grand central terminal, rockefeller center, and the upper west side, {where we went this time.}
you can also find magnolia bakery in chicago and los angeles, lucky cities!
here is a short little video we made to show the darling details of this bakery..

thanks magnolia, we love you!

  9. Oh I love that place! I can't remember which location we went to when we were there this summer but I remember we took our banana pudding and cupcake down the street and there was the cutest little shaded area with an outdoor piano and we ate our goodies and listened to a man playing outside. It was heavenly. Yum!
